L'auteur évoque son parcours, ses premières années chez Sun, en compagnie d'Elvis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison et Jerry Lee Lewis, la gloire des années 1960-1970 puis la chute et enfin sa rencontre avec la scène alternative, mais aussi sur le plan personnel sa dépendance aux amphétamines, sa violence, ses défaillances.
