Former Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan speaks out

Armen GEORGIAN

Edité par France 24

This year, with two rival governments, two parliaments and rival armed groups fighting in the country, Libya has plunged into chaos. In an interview with France 24, Ali Zeidan says the international community did not do enough to help him disarm militias while he was in office, and says he wants to come back to a major role in Libyan politics.

Note
  • Ali Zeidan is perhaps best known in the Western media for being kidnapped when he was Prime minister of Libya. He was in office from November 2012 until March 2014, a crucial time in his country's turbulent transition after the revolt that ousted Muammar Gaddafi. He was then ousted by parliament and left Libya, after a long stand-off between the parliament and the government that had practically paralysed the country.
