Russia: A frenzy of quirky and conservative laws
Edité par France 24
Programme prepared by Elise Duffau and Patrick Lovett
- Note
The Russian legal system has long been criticised for its discriminatory laws against homosexuality. Now it’s in the spotlight again. The Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, has been drawing up a whole host of new rules on public behaviour. These include bans on swearing, synthetic lace, women under 40 buying cigarettes, and even how high heels are worn. Many see these laws as an effort to appeal to the country's most conservative elements.
